Marquette, MINovember 24, 2021 – Yesterday evening, Marquette Township turned on the lights of the big Christmas Tree to celebrate the coming of the holiday seasons! Between 6-9 pm, people from all around collected in  the Westwood Mall Parking Lot to watch the Tree Lighting Ceremony and meet Santa inside of the mall. Walt Lindala and Todd Noordyk emceed the festivities.

The night began with Linda Smith Christmas performing Christmas Carols for the crowd, and then a performance by Studio Dance Arts’ students on the stage.

The dancing was cut short by the Grinch, ready as ever to steal Christmas. Luckily, the Sheriff was prepared & nearby, and captured the Grinch before he could ruin Christmas! Once the Grinch was carted off, Santa arrived escorted by the fire department. Together with the crowd, counting down from ten, Santa flipped the switch to light up the tree to ring in the season!

After the tree was aglow, the crowd headed into Westwood mall where Super One Foods of Marquette provided hotdogs and hot cocoa to help warm up everybody. In the back of the mall, Santa was taking pictures with the kids and his little helpers passed out candy, courtesy of Jet’s Pizza.

Thanks as well to North County Tree Care, Rusty Bowers Entertainment, Lions International, Marquette Township Business Association, and the Westwood Mall for making this possible
