Eden Lutheran Church in Munising begins outdoor worship June 21, 2020

MUNISING – The Congregational Council of Eden Lutheran Church has decided to begin taking baby steps back into communal life with an outdoor Sunday worship beginning June 21, 2020, at 10:30 am.

For the remainder of the summer and until further notice, the faith community and visitors will gather in this way. The Council felt the warmer months offer an opportunity to be creative in worship as restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are eased, while still being abundantly cautious with the bodies of God’s people. Attendees may remain in their cars for worship or bring lawn chairs to set up in the circle garden area. Please plan to set chairs up with at least six feet between individuals or household groups.

At present, Eden is permitted to host gatherings of up to 50 people indoors and 250 outdoors. People who are over 65, and those with serious underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and compromised immune system, are still advised to refrain from gathering.

These general guidelines apply in all cases until we have a vaccine:
• Stay at home if you are sick, and self-quarantine if you think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
• Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, especially after touching frequently used items or surfaces.
• Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces.
• Use cloth face coverings while in public. Children under 2, those with breathing problems, and those who are unable to remove a mask on their own should not wear face coverings

Eden will also continue to provide the service online. This will help reach those who do not feel it is safe to gather yet. It also provides our fallback in inclement weather. If it is raining or snowing, please assume outdoor worship is suspended and join worship on Facebook Live on the Eden Lutheran Church Facebook page. Recordings of worship and devotionals will continue to be offered on our website as well, www.edenonthebay.org.

The Council also notes that should the pandemic worsen and restrictions go back into place, we will immediately return to online worship only. An Eden COVID-19 Task Force has been established to plan how we will continue to worship when the warmer months are over.
