City of Negaunee to Enforce Camper Trailer/Motorhome Parking Ordinance July 13, 2020

City of Negaunee to Enforce Camper Trailer/Motorhome Parking Ordinance July 13, 2020

Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron is announcing, at the request of City Council, to enforce measures found in Ordinance #876.03, section (a), that pertains to camper trailer/motorhome parking on City streets, this ordinance was passed in 1982 and codified in 1999.

Section 876.03, (a), reads as follows:

{876.03 PARKING OR OCCUPANCY OF TRAILERS OUTSIDE OF CAMPS. (a) No person shall, within the limits of the City, park any trailer on any street, alley or highway, or other public way or public place, or on any tract of land owned by any person, occupied or unoccupied, except as provided in this chapter.}

The Negaunee Police Department will begin issuing violation notices on July 13th, 2020. Such notices will inform the owners of the trailer/motorhome that they are in violation of the aforementioned ordinance. Owners will be given until noon, on July 31st, 2020, to remove their camper trailer/motorhome from the City street or face a possible citation no more than $500.00.

In recent years, more camper trailers/motorhomes have been being purchased and parked on City streets. Unfortunately, the excess rise in number of camper trailers/motorhomes have caused a public safety issue. “Many complaints have been coming into the City and Council this year, we are appropriately utilizing our tools where necessary in the interest of public health, safety, and welfare”, Heffron said.

The City has been in contact with a business willing to park camper trailers/motorhomes on their property. According to City Manager Nate Heffron, “The City does not endorse or suggest any vendor, nor is the City directly involved with any contracts or services they may provide, nor can we answer any questions related to their services.”

Residents receiving this notice that may have questions can contact the Negaunee City Police Department.

Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of the City Manager, Nate Heffron at (906) 475-7700 ext. 11.
