Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions December 18, 2020

LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development, Michigan Apple Committee, Barrier Free Design Board, Michigan Bean Commission, Michigan Board of Behavior Analysts, Michigan Blueberry Commission, Michigan Board of Chiropractic, Michigan Board of Cosmetology, Data Collection Agency Governing Board, Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals, Michigan Board of Massage Therapy, Board of Mechanical Rules, Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board, Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery, Michigan Natural Resources Commission, Michigan Board of Occupational Therapists, Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Michigan Board of Physical Therapy, Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Michigan Board of Psychology, Michigan Board of Respiratory Care, Rural Development Fund Board, Michigan Board of Social Work, Michigan Board of Speech Language Pathology, Michigan Travel Commission, Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine, State Historical Records Advisory Board, Board of Interpreters for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing, and the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services.

Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development

Cheryl A. Kobernik, of Frankfort, is the co-owner and operator of North Star Organics. Ms. Kobernik also serves as a clinical consultant for the Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wayne State University and a Master of Social Work from Grand Valley State University. Ms. Kobernik is appointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Brian Pridgeon whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development provides oversight and executive direction for the programs of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and approves the rules and regulations the department promulgates.

Michigan Apple Committee

Eric J. Roossinck, of Fremont, is the president and general manager of Roossinck Fruit Storage & Orchards., Inc. He holds an associate’s degree in General Studies from Muskegon Community College and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Grand Valley State University.  Mr. Roossinck is appointed to fill a vacancy following the redistricting of the Commission. He will represent District 3 growers for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring April 1, 2023. He is appointed to fill a vacancy.

The Michigan Apple Committee is dedicated to improving the profitability of Michigan’s fresh and processed apple industries. The Committee coordinates market development, educational activities, and research that benefits the 1000 family apple growers in Michigan through improved profitability, ensuring the continued success of this sector of Michigan agriculture.

Barrier Free Design Board

Ronald R. Campbell, of Davison, is the principal planner and preservation architect for Oakland County. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. Mr. Campbell is reappointed to represent registered architects for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring October 31, 2023.

Michael Powell, of Warren, is a retired customer assistance specialist for Electronic Data Systems (EDS). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Powell is appointed to represent the visually impaired for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring October 31, 2023. He succeeds Jason Turkish whose term expired October 31, 2020.

The Barrier Free Design Board has the responsibility to receive, review, and process requests for exceptions to the barrier free design specifications, and requires appropriate equivalent alternatives when exceptions are granted. The Board receives, processes, and makes recommendations for barrier free design rules.

Michigan Bean Commission

Ted W. Bauer, of Reese, is the owner of Laracha Farms and chairman of the labor board for Bayside Beans. He holds an Associates in AgriBusiness from Michigan State University. Mr. Bauer is appointed to represent District 2 growers for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023. He succeeds Mark Reif whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Stephen J. Ewald, of Unionville, is the president of Ewald Farms, Inc. and is chair of the Organic Farmers of Michigan Board. He is a member of the Farm Produce Insurance Authority and is chairman of the Bean Commission Production Research Advisory Board. Mr. Ewald is reappointed to represent a member-at-large for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023.

The Michigan Bean Commission is headquartered in Frankenmuth, the heart of the growing area. The primary objectives of the Commission are research and promotion. There are more than 1,100 growers and related agri-business associates registered with the Michigan Bean Commission who are dedicated to bringing consumers the highest quality dry beans. Michigan’s growers have a long history of production and are recognized worldwide as industry leaders.

Michigan Board of Behavior Analysts

Deborah Beers, of Sebewaing, is a board certified assistant behavior analyst and chief financial officer for Thumb Area Psychological Services, LLC. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. Ms. Beers is reappointed to represent assistant behavior analysts for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Conny Raaymakers, Ph.D., of Middleville, is the director of applied behavior analysis for the Developmental Enhancement Behavioral Health. She is also adjunct faculty for The Chicago School of Professional Psychology where she earned her Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis. Dr. Raaymakers is reappointed to represent behavior analysts engaged in providing applied behavior analysis services to the Medicaid population in addition to providing clinical services. She will serve for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Christina J. Vestevich, of Bloomfield Hills, is the chief clinical officer and founder of Gateway Pediatric Therapy, LLC and is adjunct faculty at Oakland University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. Ms. Vestevich is appointed to represent behavior analysts engaged in providing clinical services for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Josh Plavnick whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Behavior Analysts was created to assist the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with the regulating and licensing of behavior analysts who utilize applied behavior analysis interventions that are based on scientific research and the direct observation and measurement of behavior and the environment.

Michigan Blueberry Commission

Dennis Vander Kooi, of Allegan, is the president of Woodland Enterprises Inc and a member of the North American Blueberry Council. Mr. Kooi is reappointed to represent District 1 growers for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023.

The Michigan Blueberry Commission is housed within the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and was created through the farmer-initiated process outlined in the Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act. The Commission was created with the goal of improving the economic position and competitiveness of the Michigan blueberry industry by supporting research, education, and promotion programs.

Michigan Board of Chiropractic

Cecil Forbes, D.C. of Northville, is the owner of iCare Spine & Rehab Center. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Jackson State University and a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. Dr. Forbes is appointed to represent chiropractors for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He is succeeding Lewis Squires whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Chiropractic ascertains minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and verifies continuing education during licensure. The Public Health Code defines the practice of chiropractic as the discipline within the healing arts that deals with the human nervous system and the musculoskeletal system and their interrelationship with other body systems. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Board of Cosmetology

Gabriella Abel, of Okemos, is a communications strategist with Byrum & Fisk Advocacy Communications. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Western Michigan University. Ms. Abel is reappointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Victoria S. Williams, of Farmington Hills, is an instructor for the David Pressley School of Cosmetology. She holds both her Cosmetology and Instructor License from the David Pressley School of Cosmetology. Mrs. Williams is appointed to represent licensed cosmetologists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She is succeeding Danielle Kruithoff whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Cosmetology was created to license and regulate the practice of cosmetology in Michigan. The statute defines cosmetology as one of the following services or a combination of the following services: hair care services, skin care services, manicuring services, and electrology. The members of the cosmetology industry who are licensed by the department include public and private schools of cosmetology, beauty shops, cosmetologists, manicurists, cosmetology instructors, electrologists, estheticians, and natural hair culturists.

Data Collection Agency Governing Board

Emily McDonough, of Williamston, is the administrator for the Funds Administration and Self-Insured Program Division in the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and a former assistant Attorney General. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology and Zoology from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Ms. McDonough is reappointed to represent the executive branch of state government for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2021.

The Data Collection Agency Governing Board is responsible for the determination of workers’ compensation data requirements for establishing workers’ disability compensation insurance rates. One member of the board is appointed by the Governor to represent the Executive Branch of state government.

Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals

Jeff D. Smrz, of Westland, is the assistant director of the Michigan Laborers’ & Apprenticeship Institute. He holds an Associate of Applied Science from Baker College. Mr. Smrz is appointed to represent labor in the construction industry for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring March 18, 2024. He succeeds D. Lynn Coleman who has resigned.

The Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) cases involving safety and health citations, orders, and appeals. The Board may order testimony at hearings, compel witnesses or require depositions, and further promulgates rules of procedure for hearings, maintaining consistency with any federal occupation safety or health standard.

Michigan Board of Massage Therapy

Jason L. Bacchus, of Alpena, is a massage therapist for the Alpena Therapeutic Massage Clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Social Work, an Associate of Arts in Gerontology from Manchester College, and a Professional Massage Therapy diploma from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy. Mr. Bacchus is appointed to represent massage therapists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Tiffany Gennety whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Dana Blank, of Ovid, is a teacher in the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in Adult and Continuing Education from Michigan State University, and a secondary education certificate from Saginaw Valley State University. Ms. Blank is reappointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Amelia Lipovsky, of White Lake, is the massage manager for Rodnick Chiropractic Clinic. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from San Houston State University, as well as an Associates of Applied Science degree in Massage Therapy from Oakland Community College. Miss Lipvosky is appointed to represent massage therapists for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2021. She succeeds Beth Miazga who has resigned.

John T. Stout, of Lansing, is a massage therapist with the Craft Chiropractic Creating Wellness Center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies from Saint John’s University, a Master of Arts in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Therapeutic Massage Technician diploma from the Health Enrichment Center of Lapeer. Mr. Stout is reappointed to represent massage therapists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

The Michigan Board of Massage Therapy ascertains minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and verifies continuing education during licensure. The Public Health Code defines the practice of massage therapy as the application of a system of structured touch, pressure, movement, and holding to the soft tissue of the human body in which the primary intent is to enhance or restore the health and well-being of the client. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Board of Mechanical Rules

Lorenzo Brown, of Farmington Hills, is a facility technician for Oakland Community College and a lead instructor for the International Union of Operating Engineers. He is a veteran of the Unites States Navy where he served as a boiler technician, held numerous officer positions, and obtained several certifications from the Naval Training Academy. Mr. Brown is appointed to represent specialty work areas for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring July 30, 2024. He succeeds Kenneth Misiewicz whose term expired October 1, 2019.

Terry A. Gilligan, of Livonia, is the business manager for Pipefitters Local 636. He participated in the Pipefitters Local 636 Apprenticeship Program and studied pipefitting, refrigeration, and air conditioning. Mr. Gilligan is reappointed to represent a member of organized labor who represents the mechanical trades for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring July 30, 2024.

Dennis R. Mowbray, Jr., of New Boston, is the senior trades manager of mechanical power systems for the Wayne County Airport Authority and an instructor with Operating Engineers Local 324. Mr. Mowbray is appointed to represent unlimited service in heating or refrigeration for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring July 30, 2024. He succeeds David Galbreath whose term expired October 1, 2020.

The Board of Mechanical Rules was created to make recommendations for mechanical code rules, issue mechanical contractor’s licenses to qualified applicants, and make all orders, rules, and regulations necessary for enforcement of the provisions of the act.

Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board

James Pearson, of Highland, is a retired public school teacher of nearly 40 years. Mr. Pearson taught in elementary, middle, and high schools but spent much of his career at Milford High School where he taught World History, International Relations, and other subjects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan. Mr. Pearson is appointed to represent a member who retired from a classroom teacher position for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring March 30, 2022. He succeeds Dan Christner who has resigned.

The Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board is responsible for general oversight of retirement, survivor, and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts, community colleges and certain universities.

Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery

Celeste R. Groenenberg, of Chelsea, is a licensed midwife with Gentle Mama Holistic Midwifery. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from the Midwives College of Utah. Mrs. Groenenberg is appointed to represent midwives for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She is succeeding Stacia Proefrock whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Katheryn N. Mazzara, of Howell, is a retired senior midwife and executive director of Mazzara Midwifery Services, LLC. She is a certified professional midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives. Mrs. Mazzara is reappointed to represent midwives for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Kathi L. Mulder, of Traverse City, is the director and senior midwife at Dane of Life Midwifery. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Elementary Education from Central Michigan University. Mrs. Mulder is appointed to represent midwives for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Connie Perkins whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Heather Robinson, of Detroit, is the owner of Birth Beautiful Detroit, LLC. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Michigan, an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certificate from Wayne County Community College, and a Certified Professional Midwife certificate from Birthwise Midwifery School. Ms. Robinson is reappointed to represent midwives for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

The Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery is housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. The Board works with the Department to establish and implement the licensure program for the practice of midwifery in the state.

Michigan Natural Resources Commission

Thomas A. Baird, of Elk Rapids, is the owner of Thomas Baird Consultants. He holds an associate’s degree in general studies from Grand Rapids Junior College, a Bachelor of Sciences in Political Science and Psychology from Grand Valley State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan. Mr. Baird is appointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Christopher Tracy whose term expires December 31, 2020.

David Cozad, of Bay City, is the president of Mainstream Resources. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Alma College and a Master of Science in Aquatic Biology from Central Michigan University. Mr. Cozad is appointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Louise Klarr whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) has exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish and is authorized to designate game species and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals through the issuance of orders.

Michigan Board of Occupational Therapists

Cristian A. LaBar, of Howell, is an occupational therapist with the Livingston Educational Service Agency Early On program.  She holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Occupational Therapy from Baker College. Mrs. LaBar is appointed to represent occupational therapists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Kelly King whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Occupation Therapists works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to promulgate rules for licensing occupational therapists and ascertaining minimal entry level competency of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants.  The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the Board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery

Ronald M. Bishop, D.O, of East Lansing, is the director of urgent care medicine for Memorial Healthcare Center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Miles College and a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Bishop is appointed to represent osteopathic physicians for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Jesse Guasco whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Ben Rimes, of St. Joseph, is the director of technology for Coloma Community Schools. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan-Flint. Mr. Rimes is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Sheryl Thompson whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to regulate the practice of osteopathic medicine and surgery in this state, ascertain minimal entry level competency of health practitioners, and verify continuing medical education during licensure. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Board of Physical Therapy

Nora G. Cascardo, P.T., of Huntington Woods, is an administrator and partner at Premier Therapy Centers, Inc. She holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the College of St. Scholastica and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Daemen College. Dr. Cascardo is appointed to represent physical therapists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Matthew McFadden whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Physical Therapy works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the licensing of physical therapists in this state and ascertains the minimal entry level competency of health practitioners. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery

Courtney B. Morris, of Clinton Township, is the transition coordinator of River Rouge School District. She holds an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts from Schoolcraft College, a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration Social Work from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Eastern Michigan University. Ms. Morris is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring June 30, 2023. She succeeds Satina Lilly who has resigned.

Tino W. Smith, Sr., Ph.D., of Battle Creek, is the CEO of Greater Kingdom International. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Aenon College, a Master of Arts in Theology from United College and Seminary, a Doctor of Theology from Lighthouse College, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Indiana Theological Seminary. Dr. Smith is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring June 30, 2022. He succeeds Joseph Martin who has resigned.

The Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery was formed to license and regulate the practice of podiatric medicine and surgery, which is defined in the Public Health Code as the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and prevention of conditions of the lower extremities, including local manifestations of systemic disease in the human foot and ankle, by attending to and advising patients and through the use of devices, diagnostic tests, drugs and biologicals, surgical procedures, or other means.

Michigan Board of Psychology

Melissa J. Grey, Ph.D., of Monroe, is a staff psychologist at Integrative Empowerment Group and is a psychology professor at Monroe County Community College. She holds a PhD. and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Grey is appointed to represent psychologists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Gail Majcher whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Harper West, of Rochester Hills, is a psychotherapist at Great Lakes Psychology Group. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. Ms. West is appointed to represent nondoctoral psychologists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Sarah Van Wormer whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Psychology was created to work with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to promulgate rules and grant licenses to professionals in the field of psychology.

The Board has a duty to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare. The Board implements this responsibility by ascertaining minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and by taking disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Board of Respiratory Care

Andrea Hanford, of Livonia, is a registered respiratory therapist and adult critical care specialist at Saint Mary Mercy Livonia. She holds an associate’s degree in respiratory care and a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Science from Ferris State University. Mrs. Hanford is appointed to represent respiratory therapists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Jeremy Bainbridge whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Mindy Vanhouzen, of Interlochen, is the dean of students at Grand Traverse Academy. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Ministry in Biblical Counseling at West Coast Bible College and Seminary. Ms. Vanhouzen is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Matthew Anderson whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Respiratory Care oversees the licensure requirements and standards for respiratory therapists. The Board has a duty to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare. The Board implements this responsibility by ascertaining minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and by taking disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Rural Development Fund Board

Erin K. Kricher, of Traverse City, is the director of renewable development at Invenergy LLC. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Business Administration from Northwood University. Mrs. Kricher is appointed to represent Democrats and residents of the Lower Peninsula for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Laura Braun whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Rural Development Fund Board, housed in the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, has oversight of the Rural Development Fund. The Board is charged with advising the Department on how to distribute tax revenue collected from mines to improve and strengthen local communities.

Michigan Board of Social Work

Petra Alsoofy, of Melvindale, is an educator at the Arab American National Museum. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a focus on history and middle eastern studies from Grand Valley State University. Ms. Alsoofy is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Marc Milburn whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Jasmine S. Calhoun, of Saginaw, is the director of Saginaw County Youth Protection Council-Innerlink. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Medical Anthropology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Health Administration and Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University. Ms. Calhoun is appointed represent the general public for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2022. She succeeds Constance Squires who has resigned.

Maria Petrides, of Northville, is a clinician and independent contractor at Stonebrook Counseling Associates. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Central Michigan University from Central Michigan University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Ms. Petrides is appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in the practice of social work for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Brian Philson whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Social Workers was created to register social workers in Michigan. Social Work is defined as the professional application of social work values, principles, and techniques to counseling or to helping an individual, family, group, or community to enhance or restore the capacity for social functioning and/or provide, obtain, or improve tangible social and health services. The Public Health Code mandates the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Board of Speech Language Pathology

Anthony M. Barnes, of Kalamazoo, is a special education teacher at Kalamazoo Public Schools. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Special Education Administration from Western Michigan University. Mr. Barnes is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. He succeeds Ryan Burklow whose term expires December 31, 2020.

D’Jaris R. Coles-White, Ph.D., of Kalamazoo, is a professor at Andrews University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Columbia College, a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in Speech Language Pathology. Dr. Coles-White is appointed to represent speech-language pathologists for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Patricia Mervenne whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Ross Mayerhoff, M.D., of Birmingham, is a senior staff surgeon with Henry Ford Health System. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Cornell University and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Stony Brook University School of Medicine. Dr. Mayerhoff is appointed to represent physicians for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.  He succeeds Lawrence Prokop whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Speech Language Pathology works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of speech pathologists in this state. The Public Health Code defines the practice of speech-language pathology as the application of principles, methods, and procedures related to the development of disorders of human communication. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

Michigan Travel Commission

Amy B. Cox, of Warren, is the senior director of sales and earned revenue for The Henry Ford. She has been with The Henry Ford since 2001, previously serving as a sales manager and the director of group and event sales. Ms. Cox is appointed for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring August 20, 2023. She succeeds Carol Kendra who has resigned.

The Michigan Travel Commission was established to promote, maintain, and develop the orderly growth of the Michigan travel industry. The Commission assists the Michigan Travel Bureau with the development of a comprehensive long-range master plan, annually assesses the activities and accomplishments of the Michigan Travel Bureau, and works to the maximum extent practicable with those private associations, nonprofit corporations, organizations, or other private entities which promote tourism in this state.

Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine

Tracy Nyberg, DVM, of Skandia, is a veterinarian and the owner at Stuga North Veterinary Care. She holds a Bachelor of Animal Science from Michigan State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. Dr. Nyberg is reappointed to represent veterinarians for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Joanna Pennebaker, of Plymouth, is a clinic medicine assistant manager at Michigan Humane. She holds an Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Wayne County Community College. Ms. Pennebaker is appointed to represent veterinary technicians for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Marianne Tear whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of veterinary medicine and ascertain minimal entry level competency of health practitioners. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the Board to promote and protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

State Historical Records Advisory Board

Cynthia A. Ghering, of East Lansing, is the recently retired director of university archives and historical collections for Michigan State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Michigan University and a Master of Science in Information Archives and Records Management from the University of Michigan. Ms. Ghering is reappointed for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

April K. Maycock, of Beverly Hills, is the probate register and director of information services for the Wayne County Probate Court. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems. Ms. Maycock is appointed for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024. She succeeds Katheryn Kelly whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The State Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and for National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)-funded projects in the state. The Board acts as a coordinating body to facilitate cooperation and communication among historical records repositories and information agencies within the state, and as a state-level review body for grant proposals that meet NHPRC grant program guidelines.

Board of Interpreters for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing

April A. Davidson, of Grand Ledge, is the interpreter training program practicum supervisor and adjunct instructor at Lansing Community College. She holds an Associate of Applied Arts in Sign Language Interpreting from Lansing Community College and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Sign Language Interpreting from Siena Heights University. Ms. Davidson is reappointed to represent an institution or other organization responsible for the education of interpreters or interpreter standards for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

Mitchell L. Holaly, of Grand Blanc, is an interpreter with Mitch Holaly, LLC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Science from Michigan State University, a Master of Arts in Interpreting Studies and Communication from St. Catherine University, and holds a certificate of achievement from the Sign Language Interpreter Program at Lansing Community College. Mr. Holaly is reappointed to represent certified deaf persons’ interpreters for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024.

The Board of Interpreters for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing was created to help streamline the sign language interpreter certification process and will advise the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on all matters related to the certification of interpreters and the administration of the Deaf Persons’ Interpreters Act.

Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services

Carol L. Bergquist, Ph.D., of Escanaba, is the director of vocational rehabilitation for the Hannahville Indian Community. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Education from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University, a Doctoral Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University, and a Certification in Special Education Administration from Michigan State University. Dr. Bergquist is reappointed to represent the director of a project carried out under Section 121 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, providing vocational rehabilitation services grants to the governing bodies of an Indian tribe or to a consortium of tribal governing bodies. She will serve for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023.

Kellie Blackwell, of Lansing, is the program manager of community engagement at Handicapper Advocacy Alliance Inc. She holds a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University. Ms. Blackwell is appointed to represent current or former applicants for, or recipients of, vocational rehabilitation services, for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023. She succeeds Brenda Henige who resigned and whose term expires December 31, 2020.

Yvonne Fleener, of Grand Ledge, is the executive director at Helping Hands Respite Care. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Science from Michigan State University and a Master in Public Administration from Michigan State University. Ms. Fleener is appointed to represent the Statewide Independent Living Council for a term commencing December 18, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2022. She succeeds Aaron M. Andres who has resigned.

Tiffany Guthrie, of Mt. Pleasant, is a regional parent mentor at Michigan Alliance for Families. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Central Michigan University. Ms. Guthrie is reappointed to represent a parent training and information center established under Section 671 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023.

Brent Mikulski, of Canton, is the CEO and president of Services to Enhance Potential.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and History from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University. Mr. Mikulski is appointed to represent community rehabilitation program service providers for a term commencing January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2023. He succeeds David Szydlowski whose term expires December 31, 2020.

The Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services reviews, analyzes, and advises Michigan’s rehabilitation programs and services. The Council works to improve public vocational rehabilitation services delivered by the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) and Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS).
