DOWNTOWN MARQUETTE LAUNCHES WEDNESDAY EVENING FARMERS MARKET June 16, 2021
Marquette, MI- The Wednesday Evening Downtown Marquette Farmers Market (DMFM) is back! The official second season will start Wednesday, June 16 from 5-7 PM at The Marquette Commons. Customers can expect to find a more intimate market compared to Saturday Mornings, along with a handful of new events. All shoppers are expected to follow the market’s updated COVID-19 Safe Shopper Guidelines.
The DMFM is excited to welcome 15 local vendors each week to its outdoor Wednesday Evening Market this season. Farmers, growers, food producers, and artisans will fill the plaza at the Marquette Commons offering a bevy of local goods for sale. Shoppers can choose from fresh, locally grown, seasonal produce, locally raised meat, baked goods, kombucha, bread, hot sauce, locally made clothing, and more!
Seven brand new, first-time vendors have joined the DMFM Wednesday Evening lineup this season. New product offerings include hydroponically grown micro-greens, locksmith services, mushrooms, handcrafted teas, pottery, and more.
New this season is the Wednesday night Art Market and Open Mic events. On Wednesday, June 23, the DMFM will partner with the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture to welcome a handful of artists to the market in collaboration with Art Week. Any artists interested in participating may submit an application on the DMFM website through Saturday, June 12. Additionally, the third Wednesday of every month during the market season will feature an Open Mic Night in partnership with Marquette Fringe and Pyre Publishing. Interested participants are welcomed to sign up at the market to reserve five minutes with the mic.
Updated COVID-19 Safe Shopper Guidelines are in place for both market staff, vendors and shoppers. A full list of guidelines can be found on the DMFM website at www.mqtfarmersmarket.com/safeshopperguidelines. The following changes have been made as of 5/25/2021:
- Face masks are optional for fully vaccinated market shoppers.
- Face masks are required for non-vaccinated market shoppers.
- There is no eating or drinking allowed in the market. Please enjoy your purchases in our Designated Eating Area or at home.
Additionally, The Marquette County Health Department will be at The Marquette Commons for our first market on Wednesday, June 16 from 5-7 PM for a pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic. The Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will be offered, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary. A valid driver’s license is required. Any questions about the vaccine should be directed to the Health Department.
Shoppers can now plan for their market visit by using new resources available on the market’s website. The new Interactive Market Map allows shoppers to search for vendors and products, learn more about each vendor, and map their shopping experience accordingly. Additionally, the new Meet Our Vendors page provides shoppers with detailed information about each vendor including specific offerings, accepted payment types, and which dates they will be at the market. The DMFM will continue to accept a wide array of food assistance programs including EBT Bridge Card, P-EBT Card, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC Project FRESH, and Sr. Project FRESH. Hoop Houses for Health is accepted by the following vendors: Case Country Farm, and Tonells Farms.
