NMU Orchestra Concert Thursday November 18, 2021

The Northern Michigan University Music Department will present its Thanksgiving-themed NMU Orchestra Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Reynolds Recital Hall.

The performance will feature “Largo” from “New World Symphony” by Antonin Dvorak; “La Folia” by Archangelo Corelli and arranged by Henry Sopkin; “Ashokan Farewell” by Jay Ungar and arranged by Bob Cerulli; “Dance of the Tumblers” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov and arranged by David Stone; and the first movement of “Symphony in C” by Franz Schubert and arranged by Vernon Leidig and Lennie Niehaus.

“The audience can look forward to a short and sweet concert that contains various literacy readings which relate to each piece performed at the concert,” said NMU Professor Barbara Rhyneer, who will conduct the performance. “The audience can also anticipate elements of folk, classical and festive music to ease them slowly into the holidays.”

Two paintings by a local artist and member of the orchestra, Patty Gagnon, will be displayed at the entrance. Admission is free; masks are required. Live streaming will be available here.
